This report addresses how major international jurisdictions have approached, or are preparing to approach, the sometimes thorny issue of whether sports bodies should be recognised, and even compensated, in legislation authorising betting on their games.
In 2018 and 2019, the issue has been centre stage in debate over the future shape of the US sports-betting market as the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB) and golf’s PGA Tour have lobbied for a portion of betting turnover and the ability to restrict bet types in bills being considered by various state legislatures.
