Regulatory Guidance on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

After four years of discussion within European institutions and close to 4,000 suggested amendments, the General Data Protection Regulation was adopted by the European Parliament on April 14, 2016. The text aims to improve the level of data protection for data subjects, and to increase "business opportunities in the digital single market including through reduced administrative burden".

The text was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on May 4, 2016, entered into force on May 24, 2016 and applies from May 25, 2018.
