Q&A: Online Gambling in Pennsylvania

On October 30, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf signed House Bill 271 into law, making Pennsylvania the fourth U.S. state to legalize internet casino games or poker as part of sweeping legislation that also included expansion of additional forms of land-based gambling alongside various reforms to the state’s regulatory structure.

Between late December and early April, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has adopted several sets of temporary regulations to implement the new law. The PGCB has also announced it will start accepting interactive gaming license applications from Pennsylvania land-based casinos and various categories of technology providers between April and June, with a key licensing window for incumbent casino operators opened on April 16.
