Brazil: New Personal Data Protection Act

On July 10, 2018, the Brazilian Congress approved Draft Law PLC 53/18, establishing the country's data protection legal framework. The law applies to any personal data handling activity performed by individuals or entities from the public or private sector, carried out within the Brazilian territory, or activities related to the collection or handling of data of individuals located within the Brazilian territory.

The new law is substantially inspired by the provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
