Wynn’s Massachusetts Casino Cleared For Construction

Steve Wynn is poised to resume construction on his $2.1bn Massachusetts casino project along the banks of the Mystic River after a state environmental official Friday granted his company a waterfront permit, denying an appeal by the city of Somerville.

Martin Suuberg, commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), adopted most of the recommendations outlined last week in a state hearing officer’s 50-page recommendation. 

“[My] review of the record concludes that the project as already conditioned serves a proper public purpose and provides greater benefit than detriment to the rights of the people in the tidelands,” Suuberg wrote in his two-page decision.
