World Lotteries Break $270bn In Sales, WLA Data Shows

The latest figures from the World Lottery Association show global lottery sales grew almost 7 percent year-on-year to $273.4bn in fiscal 2014, with Asia-Pacific the biggest region.

The second edition of the WLA’s annual review includes data from its 134 member lotteries across three core product categories of draw-based games, instant games and sports betting.

Lotteries based in Asia-Pacific accounted for 39.3 percent of total member sales, ahead of Europe and the Middle East with 37 percent, North America and the Caribbean 20 percent, Latin America 3.2 percent and Africa 0.5 percent.

Draw-based lottery games accounted for 57.8 percent, instant win games 24.4 percent and sports betting on pari-mutuel and fixed-odds products 17.7 percent.
