State gaming regulators in Washington and Ohio are taking a closer look at e-sports and the unregulated gambling that is taking place on the games, as Nevada gaming regulators continue their push to approve the first regulated e-sports betting market.
On Wednesday, the Washington State Gambling Commission (WSGC) said it had notified Valve that it must immediately stop the transfer of so-called “skins” betting on its Steam platform.
Through the use of bots that utilize Steam’s platform for skin betting, commission agents determined that Valve was aiding in allowing third-party sites to conduct gambling activities.
