U.S. DOJ Deflects Question About Fantasy Sports

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday declined to comment specifically on the headline-grabbing daily fantasy sports industry, but said gambling on the Internet continues to be monitored.

“The Department of Justice remains concerned about Internet gambling because of the potential for gambling by minors and compulsive gambling, the potential for fraud and money laundering, and the potential for involvement of organized crime,” Peter Carr, a Justice Department spokesman, told GamblingCompliance in an email.

Carr said the DOJ would “decline to speculate on the legality of specific online sites.”
