Today marks a decade since President George W. Bush signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) into law, the last major federal gambling statute enacted by Congress.
UIGEA incited panic in the gambling industry, not only in the United States but in Europe where several publicly held companies realized they would be forced to flee the lucrative American market.
The fear inspired by UIGEA hovered over the 2006 European Internet Gambling Expo in Barcelona, drawing comparisons to a wake.
