A key New York lawmaker is considering challenging a federal sports-betting ban with new legislation next year after New Jersey’s latest attempt to overcome the federal prohibition was defeated on Tuesday.
New York Assembly Racing and Wagering Committee chairman Gary Pretlow said he is in the early stages of drafting a bill to allow New York’s four commercial casinos to have sports betting.
“Don’t be surprised if you see a state like New York put through legislation on this very shortly,” Pretlow told GamblingCompliance on the sidelines of a gaming law conference in Saratoga Springs.
“I’m looking at challenging the feds on this, but I have more homework to do.”
