The Massachusetts State Lottery is upping the ante on its ambitious plans to become a major player in the explosively growing business of fantasy sports.
Michael Sweeney, who just won the nod to become the lottery’s executive director after serving as interim for several months, said Monday he will unveil a proposal this coming spring for entering the fantasy sports marketplace.
The lottery’s new fantasy sports product would be aimed at a potentially broader and lucrative market among more casual fantasy sports fans.
The move comes at a time when the legislative, legal and regulatory environment around fantasy sports is still very much in flux in Massachusetts and across the country, with different players vying to call the shots.
