Massachusetts on Wednesday became the eighth state to legalize daily fantasy sports (DFS) so far in 2016 when Governor Charlie Baker signed a comprehensive economic development bill into law.
Baker told reporters that by signing the bill DraftKings could continue to be headquartered in Boston. The governor also described DraftKings, one of two major DFS operators, as a “successful player” in the consumer online business.
The 123-page economic development bill — House Bill 4569 — was passed by the legislature last week and sent to the governor’s desk. The fantasy sports language added to the end of the bill “legalizes daily fantasy sports contests in accordance with regulations promulgated by the attorney general.”
