Instant Racing Running Into Regulatory Hurdles

Historical racing is once again operating lawfully in Wyoming, but the slots-like machines are continuing to come under fire in Texas and Idaho.

The Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission approved a software update last month to allow some historical racing machines to resume operations.

All instant racing operations were halted in October after Wyoming Attorney General Peter Michael determined that the machines were illegal under the state’s current pari-mutuel and gambling laws.

“According to the attorney general of Wyoming, there were certain occurrences that happen inside the machine that depend on a random number generator,” Wyoming Downs chief operating officer Rick Cook told GamblingCompliance.
