Illinois remains on track to become the first US state to outsource the operation of its government-run lottery after a controversial management deal was finally agreed Tuesday with a consortium led by gaming technology giant, GTech.
Pending a possible legal challenge, the Northstar Lottery consortium will assume full management of the Illinois Lottery from July 1 this year to become the first private manager of a US state lottery.
Northstar had already been named last September as the preferred bidder in a process that will see Illinois’ government step away from the direct operation of its state lottery and into more of an oversight role.
