Bwin.Party co-chief executive Norbert Teufelberger was taken into custody by Belgian police today after speaking at a conference in Brussels.
Teufelberger was asked to go with Belgian police officers for questioning shortly after 1pm (Central European Time) outside the Bibliothèque Solvay in Brussels.
He was accompanied in the police car by one of Bwin’s Belgian lawyers, Jan Decorte, an attorney at Brussels-based Koan law firm.
"Norbert Teufelberger has made comments in the press they continue to operate in Belgium, and so we consider him to be guilty of operating illegally on Belgian soil," said Peter Naessens, legal advisor to the Belgian Gaming Commission. "Therefore the Belgian police took him into custody today to ask him further questions."
