Government and company delegates at Yokohama’s first integrated resort (IR) expo have played down loud public opposition to the city’s IR candidacy, arguing a casino-driven facility is its best hope for economic revival.
Yokohama deputy mayor Toshihide Hirahara warned that Japan’s second-largest city faces a slow-burning crisis because of its sagging economy and shrinking population.
