Western Australia Passes TAB Privatisation Bill, Backs Simulated Racing Machines

The Western Australian (WA) state parliament has passed legislation that will privatise racing and wagering operations, including a historic green light for simulated racing gaming machines outside casinos.

The passage of the TAB (Disposal) Bill 2019 by the upper house of the state parliament on Wednesday confirms that Australia’s last publicly owned TAB network will undergo a competitive sale process “expected to occur in 2020”, a government statement said. 

Racing and Gaming minister Paul Papalia said the sale ensures the “sustainability and prosperity of the WA racing industry into the future”.
