Virginia Governor 'Open-Minded' To Legalizing Casinos, Sports Betting

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has said he is “open-minded” on the subject of legalizing casinos and sports betting, but the Democratic politician believes a commission should be appointed to examine the impact of gaming on the state.

Northam expected lawmakers and residents to “hear a lot more about it” when the General Assembly reconvenes in Richmond in early January.

A local business group is seeking legislative approval to build a casino in Bristol, a struggling community in the southwestern part of the state about a mile north of the Tennessee border.
