Virginia Bill Authorizing Five Casinos Advances In Senate Committee

A casino bill that would allow as many as five resorts in designated cities in Virginia should local voter referendums be approved has passed a Senate committee, but the chances any bill will pass the General Assembly with about a month left in the 2019 session are unknown.

Senate Bill 1126, authored by Senator Louise Lucas, a Democrat, would allow commercial casinos to be built in Bristol, Danville and Portsmouth. The bill would also permit the Pamunkey Indian Tribe to build a tribal casino in Richmond or Norfolk.
