At the Electronic Enterainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles this week, leading games publishers have been at pains to reassure players and investors that upcoming releases will not feature the controversial loot boxes that have attracted worldwide attention.

But with the video game industry attempting to distance itself from the controversy surrounding loot boxes at its largest annual gathering, questions remain over whether the steps will satisfy disapproving regulators.
