Veikkaus, the Finnish gambling monopoly, has pledged to reduce its marketing efforts, cut slot machine numbers and introduce comprehensive self-exclusion as it seeks to quell public and political concerns over its commitment to responsible gambling.
Sirpa Paatero, the minister for local government and ownership steering, and Veikkaus chairman Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo announced the changes during a joint press conference on Thursday.
Changes announced during the conference are expected to reduce gambling-related harms as well as accelerate the decline of the company’s market share.
Speaking at yesterday’s Scandinavian Gaming Show in Copenhagen, Jari Vähänen, Veikkaus senior vice president of international affairs, said the government now faces a dilemma.
