Finnish gambling monopoly Veikkaus is under fire after an investigative television programme claimed it signed a million-euro deal with International Game Technology (IGT) without a competitive bidding tender.
Veikkaus signed a deal with IGT in 2018, which was to run for eight years, with options to extend for three four-year periods, according to the Finnish investigative programme MOT.
The contract to run important gambling systems, such as lottery and sports betting, was granted to IGT without competitive bidding, according to the broadcast.
A direct procurement would have been illegal and attracted scrutiny from competition authorities, an external law firm told MOT.
