U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham on Tuesday confirmed he was working on federal legislation to ban all Internet gambling.
“Basically it restores the Wire Act,” the South Carolina Republican told GamblingCompliance, referring to a decades-old statute that was upended by the Obama administration two years ago.
Asked what sparked his interest in sponsoring such legislation, Graham repeated strong comments against gambling and pointed to the lack of support for such activity in his own state.
“I don’t think it is a good idea for the country,” he said. “South Carolina is not a big gambling state.”
Citing opposition on the local and state level to online gambling, Graham also noted difficulties with regulating it.
