It has been a rollercoaster year for internet gambling, which has soared from the abyss of possible extinction to potentially adding Pennsylvania and Illinois to the online market by this fall.
Perhaps as early as next month, Pennsylvania is expected to become the first state in four years to legalize internet gambling.
“The fiscal realities in Pennsylvania have the governor and the legislature scrambling for revenue to address a nearly $2bn shortfall,” said Christopher Borick, a political science professor at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
