The Uruguayan Senate voted last week to re-open a tender to private companies for a concession to operate a casino in the famous Hotel Carrasco in Montevideo. Opportunities for private operators in Montevideo and Punta Del Este continue to emerge despite a backdrop of allegations of corruption in the management of state-run casinos in the nation’s capital between 2000 and 2005.The Uruguayan Senate last week approved the passage of a law that allows the Montevideo municipal government to open a tender for a concession to operate casino gambling at the city’s famous Hotel Carrasco. The city voted to privatise the hotel and casino in July 2007 but requires the approval of both chambers of Uruguay’s General Assembly to proceed.
