Esports-centric online operator Unikrn has announced plans to launch its own crypto-currency.
Known as "UnikoinGold", the virtual tokens are set to become available in September this year and will provide players on the platform a decentralised currency with which to wager.
The digital coins will be tied to the Ethereum blockchain. Ethereum is second only to Bitcoin in terms of crypto-currency market share and is designed to allow for more complex software interactions than its older cousin.
In particular, Ethereum is built around "smart contracts" – a broad concept that allows for two entities to make an agreement without the need for third parties to verify and oversee the arrangement.
