Unibet is set to explore the limits of the monopoly granted to sports organisers under the French sports code in a test case against the Fédération Française de Tennis (FFT - French Tennis Federation) in September.The dispute hits the courts at the same time as the French government prepares plans to give organisers expanded intellectual property rights over match results and tournament names.
A French court will hear arguments on 1 September. The eventual ruling will decide whether the sports organiser can exert its intellectual property rights over the European gaming and betting operator’s use of FFT logos and tennis match results online.
