UK Regulators Primed For Action Over Advertising Upset

A senior regulator from the UK Gambling Commission has warned the industry that it must act to avoid a "gathering storm" around increasingly unpopular advertising, as the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) prepares to launch its own underage marketing guidance.

Ian Angus, programme director for consumer protection and empowerment at the commission, told the audience at Wednesday’s Responsible Marketing for Gambling Operators conference in London that consumer trust in the gambling industry was at an all time low.

Operators should "step up and own" changes to gambling advertising instead of "waiting for the storm cloud to burst", he cautioned.
