The UK Gambling Commission has broken new ground by not only issuing its first financial penalty against an online gambling operator for misleading advertising but also by holding the company responsible for its affiliates.
On Tuesday the regulator fined Alderney-based BGO Entertainment £300,000 for misleading advertising that “did not include the significant limitations and qualifications” of promotions, and for wrongly assuring officials that problems with terms and conditions had been corrected.
BGO, operating as BGOVegas and Powerspins.com, has been given a warning against its operating licence. Since 2014, its celebrity spokesman has been actor Verne Troyer of Austin Powers fame.
