A planned reopening of casinos in England for Saturday (August 1) has been postponed until at least August 15 as the UK government tightens restrictions in Manchester and other areas of northern England.
News that the reopening of English casinos, bowling alleys and ice rinks would be postponed came on Friday in a press conference hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
All UK casinos have been shut since March 23, but the postponement of reopening for at least two weeks came as the government restricted movement in parts of greater Manchester, East Lancashire and West Yorkshire following local outbreaks that the government blamed on people not practicing social distancing.
Those restrictions affect more than 4m people.
