An international investigation led by the UK and Canada has found “significant” affiliate failures in compliance with rules on privacy and unsolicited communications.
Affiliates in online gambling and other digital industries lack appropriate customer consent and frequently use misleading advertising, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) said on Tuesday.
Most of the affiliates, their merchants or operators and their platforms “lacked appropriate unsolicited communications guidelines establishing what is permissible”, the agency said.
