UK bookmakers have agreed to a voluntary advertising ban during televised sports as an apparent attempt to defuse an increasingly hot political issue.
The Remote Gambling Association (RGA), the industry’s online gambling trade group, has negotiated a tentative agreement that would stop commercials during live sports, the BBC reported today.
Racing would be exempt from the voluntary measure.
The agreement would be similar to that advanced by the Labour Party, which has been calling for a “whistle to whistle” ban on televised advertising during sports. Key industry figures have recently indicated their support for such a measure.
