UK Bingo Association Calls On Treasury To Withdraw ‘Unfair’ Taxation

According to the UK Bingo Association, the very future of the industry could be under threat due to unjustly high levels of taxation and the smoking ban coming into effect in the UK and Wales later this year.

While the Rank Group has already announced the closure of nine of its Mecca clubs in England in preparation for July’s smoking ban, a spokesman for the Bingo Association warned that “as many as 200 clubs” would be at risk unless the government acted to redress the situation by bringing bingo taxation into line with the rest of the gambling industry.

“Unless the Government takes steps to address the policies unfairly affecting bingo, businesses will close, jobs will be lost and communities will lose a key social facility,” the spokesman said.
