The English Football League (EFL) has spoken out against suggestions of a complete ban on gambling sponsorships in a bid to protect what it deems a vital revenue stream during a time of financial crisis.
“Over £40 million a season paid by the sector to the League and its clubs” and the “significant contribution betting companies” make gambling are as “important now as it has ever been, as many of our clubs are living on a financial knife edge”, the EFL wrote in a statement on sponsorship deals.
