UK’s First Racino Gets Planning Go Ahead

Chelmsford racecourse’s plans to open a US-style racino have received the go ahead from planners, but the track’s location means it will be denied a gaming licence under current UK rules.

Chelmsford City racecourse in Essex has been given the green light to make alterations to its grandstand to develop a casino to help develop an “integrated racecourse resort”, but its location outside a permitted area for casino development will leave it struggling to obtain a casino licence.

The Chelmsford racecourse, formerly known as Great Leighs, hopes to offer leisure and banqueting facilities 365 days of the year side-by-side with a casino.
