The Swedish Supreme Administrative Court has confirmed a ban on adverts for unlicensed gambling operations in a ruling that should smooth the way for further enforcement actions against media companies.
In its decision last Wednesday, the court dismissed appeals brought by billboard advertising company Clear Channel and Swedish news website Nyheter24, which had been ordered to stop running adverts for foreign operators.
My Hamrén, press officer at the Swedish Gambling Authority (Lotteriinspektionen), told GamblingCompliance that going after media companies that publish adverts of unlicensed gambling operators in Sweden “will be easier and doesn’t have to take a long time anymore” following the dismissal of the appeal.
