Top Licensing Lawyer Slates UK Rules

Susanna Fitzgerald QC, a leading counsel specialising in UK licensing applications, has spoken out against the many new layers of regulation contained in the 2005 UK Gambling Act, noting that Gambling in the UK will now be far more heavily regulated than liquor and public entertainment licensing.

Speaking at the recent Olswang gambling seminar in London Fitzgerald called the 2005 gambling act “ a major piece of social engineering” and observed “When you take an industry that has been doing exceptionally well and dump down layers of regulation upon it the reaction is certainly going to be one of “ what have we done to deserve this.”
