A Thai credit card company has had its frequent user scheme scrutinised by authorities who believe that it may constitute illegal gambling.
According to reports in The Bangkok Post, Thailand’s Crime Suppression Division is considering criminal sanctions against the Krungsriayudhya Card Company for introducing a reward scheme that could be categorised as a form of illegal lottery gambling.
The company's recently launched credit card usage promotion scheme has been called into question by the Department of Provincial Administration's (DPA) bureau of investigation and legal affairs, which asked police to intervene, claiming the company's actions violated Thailand’s long-standing 1935 Gambling Act.
