Tech Wizardry No Cure-All For Problem Gamblers, Executives Say

Gamban, GAMSTOP and banking apps that block gambling transactions are not a foolproof way to keep problem gamblers away from their habit, but supply “layers of protection”, an executive has told a UK parliamentary research committee.

An all-party parliamentary group on gambling harm solicited input on Wednesday from financial industry and other executives on how technology could help people trying to control their gambling.

“We are a self-help tool, we are not a replacement for treatment and counselling,” said Fiona Palmer, chief executive of GAMSTOP, a self-exclusion system funded by “substantial” licensing fees from the gambling industry.
