A Tale Of Two Opinions On The Wire Act

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times for internet gambling as the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) opened the door for online gaming in 2011 only to close it — at least partway — seven years later.

Following is a sequence of events leading up to the January 14 opinion by the DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) regarding the application of the federal Wire Act to internet gambling, which has left the entire gaming industry puzzled about what to do next.
