The head of Sweden’s online gambling trade association has called on payments providers to stop working with unlicensed operators in a bid to protect the reputation of licensed firms.
Speaking at PayExpo in London, the general secretary of the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS), Gustaf Hoffstedt, claimed that payment providers have the power to help create the level playing field that licensing systems rely on to succeed.
“Austria, Denmark and Finland are all at the point of considering the implementation of a gambling licensing system to replace their monopoly models. However, we cannot allow unlicensed operators to continue to delegitimise the system,” he said.
