Swedish Researchers Doubt Problem Gambling Rising In Pandemic

Swedish gambling researchers have so far found no increase in problem gambling during the pandemic, according to one academic, a finding that flies in the face of an extension of government restrictions.

Minister Ardalan Shekarabi recently proposed extending weekly deposit limits of 5,000 Swedish krona (€489) for online casino and bonus caps of SEK100 due to expire on December 31 through to next June.

He took the step based on concerns that financial uncertainty and boredom are driving consumers to gamble more or in riskier fashion.
