Svenska Spel, the Swedish state-owned gambling operator, has been praised by the country’s police for its efforts to prevent and detect match-fixing.
Fredrik Gårdare, the police commissioner for sports-related crimes, has urged Sweden-licensed gambling companies to follow Svenska Spel’s lead by being “serious about trying to detect and prevent match-fixing”.
“Today it is a little too easy to manipulate situations in matches to make money. We have both players who see it as a chance to make money and players who are threatened and exploited by larger criminal networks,” said Gårdare.
