UPDATED - This story was updated at 16:15 on April 23 to reflect a clarification from the government that the slots loss limit applies only to land-based gaming machines, while matching deposit limits will be imposed online.

Citing "major risks" due to the coronavirus pandemic, social security minister Ardalan Shekarabi has announced temporary weekly loss and deposit limits of 5,000 Swedish krona for online gambling and bonus limits of 100 krona.

The SEK 5,000 (€458) deposit limits will come into effect for all forms of online gambling, while a matching loss limit will apply only to land-based gaming machines.

The measures take effect on June 1 and expire at the end of the year, the minister said in a press conference on Thursday.
