Swedish Gambling Officials Push Back As Minister Trashes Code

The Swedish minister in charge of gambling has said a voluntary industry code does not do enough to rein in advertising, but trade group officials say the code should get a better test run before any more regulation is imposed.

A new industry code on responsible marketing that took effect on Monday as part of a plan to help the gambling industry comply with laws mandating "moderate marketing" has already been criticised by Ardalan Shekarabi, the minister for public affairs.

"What is presented in the guidelines is not enough," he told SVT, Sweden's national television broadcaster.
