The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has sent warning letters to about 170 European Union payments processors telling them to steer clear of unlicensed operators, a step that comes as calls grow for protection of the licensed market.
The SGA has warned banks and payments companies that they may be be violating Swedish law if they process transactions for unlicensed gambling operators.
In its letter, the Swedish regulator pointed out that it has no power over unlicensed companies.
