Study Concludes Chicago Not Ready For Major Casino

Chicago is not a feasible city for a major casino because of an extraordinarily high tax rate approved in June by the Illinois legislature in a massive new gambling expansion law, according to a report released on Tuesday.

“Our understanding is that on top of the existing tax structure on adjusted gross receipts (AGR) paid by all Illinois casinos, the city of Chicago casino would also pay an additional 33.5 privilege tax on AGR,” Union Gaming Analytics of Las Vegas said in a 51-page report.
