Minnesota racetrack owners are looking to break a tribal monopoly on slot machine gambling with a crowd-pleasing pledge to build a new stadium for the Vikings, the local NFL franchise, but the proposal faces stiff opposition.Led by a prominent former state senator, Racino Now is proposing to rollout slot machines at a pair of racetracks and leverage the state gambling revenue to help finance a $1bn stadium for the Minnesota Vikings.
Still, the proposal faces a tough legislative battle, with Minnesota’s 18 tribal casinos preparing to wage a fierce lobbying campaign against the plan.
