Ted Leonsis, a former AOL executive and early investor in DraftKings and Sportradar, believes the next big growth area for professional sports franchises will be gambling.
Leonsis, who also owns the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association’s Washington Wizards, said sports are the “great convener because you sit behind a screen and watch the game and you are interactive.”
“You’re communicating, talking to your friends,” Leonsis told Bloomberg Television at the NBA All-Star Technology Summit over the weekend in New Orleans.
“You’re in a community and know you are starting to have a real interest in the outcome of the games and the plays and that’s fantasy. That’s daily fantasy,” he said.
