SportPesa could be forced to pay a disputed £80m to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) after allegedly failing to deduct withholding tax on its players' winnings.
Media outlet Business Daily Africa reported that the KRA sent a demand letter to Pevans East Africa, the owner and operator of SportPesa in Kenya, asking for the company to pay taxes on players' winnings from 2015 and 2016.
The KRA is claiming that SportPesa owes the equivalent of £58m in back-dated taxes, £12m in penalties and an additional £10m in interest payments.
